Week 19 Day 90: Wow, this is actually really hard to determine, and now I realise why you pay a proper stylist to determine this. For those of you that can not afford this luxury (although I think in the long run you would save loads of money because you’d buy the right colours from the start) I’m going to try and explain the basic colouring rules.
In more recent times I have come to realise that there is a particular colour suited to everyone. (I was a non believer prior) I’ve noticed this simply during photo-shoots when I put the same item on someone but in different colours and instantly you can see which colour makes them radiate and which colours wash them out. Determining what colour suits you best is probably up there with what body shape you are. (check yesterdays blog to discover). Knowing what colour suits your natural tones will help you make appropriate clothes choices from now on. Also note that generally its the colour closest to your face that makes the difference. You can still wear your favourite colour on the bottom as long as you have a colour more suited to your tone close to your face.

These are very basic rules…it can get really complicated and specific so take this with a grain of salt.
OK, Step 1. Determine whether you have a warmer or a cooler tone. I know ‘what the’. They save to take a silver and gold piece of paper or fabric and put it next to your face. Which colour is closest to your natural tone?
Silver = Cool blue tone
Gold = warmer yellow tone
Step 2.
Cool toned people look best in blue based colours. Such as White, Bold raspberry, Deep Greens, royal blue, plum, black, bright ruby red. Also cool toned people suit soft pastel blue and pink
Warm toned people look best in yellow based colours. Such as browns, bronzes, sage greens, peach, apricot, brick red, dark tomato, burnt orange, olive, jade, oyster whites or ivory, bright navy or taupe. Brown and gold accessories.
What do certain colours mean:
- Dark colours = Authority and power
- Pastel Colours – Relaxed and friendly
- Mixed colouring = Creativity
- Reds = Burgundy/ Sophistication, Blue Red / Assertiveness, Orange Red/Lively
- Pinks = Warm open hearted, approachable
- White = Symbolises new beginning, fresh
- Orange = High energy, playful
Today’s challenge is to determine what colouring you are, and then reassess your wardrobe.
