Week of Ultimate White Shirt – Look 5

Week 20 Day 95: Today’s look is uber classic. I love wearing a plain white shirt with jeans or leather pants, in fact a plain white shirt can be worn with hm mm well just about anything. Do you own some crazy pants, fluoro, printed or a weird textile? Well the classic white shirt is your answer to getting them on and out the door. Happy Friday.

Week of Ultimate White Shirt – Look 4

Week 20 Day 94: One of the main reasons I love white shirts so much is you can add whatever accessory your heart desires. Today I’ve shown how to wear one of the geisker Luv Bow Scarves without looking like an air hostess. Or maybe I do look like an air hostess, oh well, either way it’s different, it’s inspiration and guess what, tomorrows Friday. Yippee I ye! (however you spell that…)

Week of Ultimate White Shirt – Look 3

Week 20 Day 93: It’s been a while since I showed a smart casual look, so today’s blog is an idea of what smart casual is to me. Smart casual is so subjective and therefore quite hard to define. I would say apply the same principles as you would getting ready for work, but relax it. For example today I’m wearing a straight leg pant, but its a Capri pant (not great on a normal day at the office but OK for smart casual), The white shirt out, rather than tucked in always makes it look more casual, and the Blazer is a suede navy which generally you wouldn’t wear to the office but casually yes. You still look smart but not OTT.

Look 3 – ULTIMATE WHITE SHIRT SMART CASUAL

  • ASOS  salmon Capri pants
  • Zara Blazer
  • Denim Buckle court shoe
  • You can play around more with hair and makeup when its smart casual.

Week of Ultimate White Shirt – Look 2

Week 20 Day 92:   For the 2nd look wearing the white shirt I wanted to show how white shirts are the basic element to building your outfit. Teaming a plain white shirt with a pattern skirt allows you to add bright colours and in this instance a bright mustard jacket. Nothing says crisp, clean, classy like a plain white shirt!

Look 2 – ULTIMATE WHITE SHIRT BASIC ELEMENT

  • Review pattern pencil skirt (jungle print)
  • Zara Mustard jacket

What colour suits you best?

Week 19 Day 90: Wow, this is actually really hard to determine, and now I realise why you pay a proper stylist to determine this. For those of you that can not afford this luxury (although I think in the long run you would save loads of money because you’d buy the right colours from the start) I’m going to try and explain the basic colouring rules.

In more recent times I have come to realise that there is a particular colour suited to everyone. (I was a non believer prior)  I’ve noticed this simply during photo-shoots when I put the same item on someone but in different colours and instantly you can see which colour makes them radiate and which colours wash them out. Determining what colour suits you best is probably up there with what body shape you are. (check yesterdays blog to discover). Knowing what colour suits your natural tones will help you make appropriate clothes choices from now on. Also note that generally its the colour closest to your face that makes the difference. You can still wear your favourite colour on the bottom as long as you have a colour more suited to your tone close to your face.

These are very basic rules…it can get really complicated and specific so take this with a grain of salt.

OK, Step 1. Determine whether you have a warmer or a cooler tone. I know ‘what the’. They save to take a silver and gold piece of paper or fabric and put it next to your face. Which colour is closest to your natural tone?

Silver = Cool blue tone

Gold = warmer yellow tone

Step 2.

Cool toned people look best in blue based colours. Such as White, Bold raspberry, Deep Greens, royal blue, plum, black, bright ruby red. Also cool toned people suit soft pastel blue and pink

Warm toned people look best in yellow based colours. Such as browns, bronzes, sage greens, peach, apricot, brick red, dark tomato, burnt orange, olive, jade, oyster whites or ivory, bright navy or taupe. Brown and gold accessories.

What do certain colours mean:

  • Dark colours = Authority and power
  • Pastel Colours – Relaxed and friendly
  • Mixed colouring = Creativity
  • Reds = Burgundy/ Sophistication, Blue Red / Assertiveness, Orange Red/Lively
  • Pinks =  Warm open hearted, approachable
  • White = Symbolises new beginning, fresh
  • Orange = High energy, playful

Today’s challenge is to determine what colouring you are, and then reassess your wardrobe.

What’s your Body Shape?

Week 19 Day 89: When shopping for key wardrobe items its important to know what body shape you are. In googling this topic I found a brilliant website that covers the 8 body shapes, AND what items are important for your shape.

The first step is to determine what shape you are, and this might be quite hard to determine yourself so possibly ask a friend. Another option is to take a full length photo of yourself standing with arms beside you. Print this image, then draw an outline of your shape from neck down to ankle. You will get the gist of your shape just by doing this. Then refer to the descriptions below to determine what shape you are.

Here is a brief outline of the shapes: For me information on defining body shapes and what to wear click here. Trinny and Susannah also have a great website with photos of women with particular body shapes they also have tips on what to wear depending on your shape. Click Here

  1. Straight  (Similar to Hour glass but without a defined waist)
  2. Spoon
  3. Hourglass
  4. Top Hour Glass
  5. Pear Shape
  6. Inverted Triangle
  7. Oval
  8. Diamond

Like Gok says you don’t have to loose weight just shop appropriate for your shape by balancing and correcting your shape accordingly with the right clothes. You always want to create the illusion of a hourglass shape. For example the triangle shape as shown above would be corrected by broadening the shoulders to be in line with the hips. and vice versa for the inverted triangle shape.

Your challenge today is to determine your shape!

The Peplum and Print Trend

Week 19 Day 86: Two of the major trends happening as we speak in the fashion world are Peplum silhouettes and prints with prints with prints. I love both these trends but it definitely is not for everyone.

The peplum silhouette is very chic and gorgeous for the office, the shape adds a little ruffle or skirt to the waist area of dresses, tops or skirts. If you are already curvaceous, this might add a bit to much to the waist area, but perhaps that is your desire. For block / straight up and down bodies this silhouette is brilliant. You can pick up some great pieces for your work wardrobe and turn a drab skirt into current season by teaming with a peplum top.

The print trend is absolutely fabulous. The best part about it is it doesn’t really matter what shape or size you are, because you can wear as little or as much print as your heart desires. All rules go out the door with this gorgeous trend.

For the ultimate look combine both peplum and prints. I found this gorgeous Floral Printed Peplum dress on ASOS.

I also discovered a whole website to Peplum dresses – http://www.peplumdress.net/

The Pretty Dress Company have a few different Peplum Dresses

Just Peachy

Week 19 Day 85:   Today I am just peachy in this 3/4 sleeve pencil dress from ASOS. I just went to find the link to the dress and its sold… so there goes that! But if you do like the style there is a similar one still available. Click here

I love the shape of this dress and especially the colour, this colour  in particular looks great on brunettes. The main aspect of this style of dress I love, is the fact that it covers you up (over the knee and 3/4 sleeve) so much you can afford to wear super high heels, your hair out and a fitted belt. You could even wear some fish nets with your heels to add a bit of glamour. You’ll look fabulous for work.

What shape dress do you love to wear and why?

Today I’m peachy in:

  • ASOS peach/pink pencil dress – similar one
  • Witchery beige clip waist belt
  • Beige suede bow court shoes
